>> let's go to jummy olabanji. >> we can go right to live pictures and this happened in the 1300 block of new york avenue westbound going into the city. several lanes are blocked and we spoke with d.c. police and we can confirm that an adult male was struck and he is in critical condition. but carr stayed on the scene. we note the delays are beginning to mount up at more than 1 mile. the traffic will only get worse. >> we have been keeping a close eye on this. it is terrible at the scene of the crash with only one lane getting by. this is inbound new york ave. so many commuters are heading toward that area. you have a couple of options -- if you're coming from

this evening. a little accumulation in d.c. north and west and we will have more details coming up. >> thank you very much. the nearly two-week search for christopher dorner may be over. forensic testing is set to begin on the charred remains pulled from a burned out cabin. >> it is believed that he was barricaded in after getting into a shootout with deputies. >> authorities believe christopher dorner was barricaded inside a rural cabin. after hundreds of rounds of gunfire, the structure became fully engulfed. authorities are trying to identify the body found inside. it appears that the 10-day murder spree and aggressive manhunt is aclose \east of el a where we have learned that a charred body has now been

removed. >> we believe that someone was inside. we had reason to believe that was christopher dorner. >> authorities say he helped two women hostage in my home and one of the victims was jay hilton's white. >> he tied them up and stole the car back of the rogue officer also project a second vehicle after a police chase he ditched the vehicle and took off on foot which led to a police shooting of. two deputies were wounded and one was killed abo. after yesterday's sure that with police, and he is now responsible for four deaths. he promised to continue killing police officers and their families trying to exact revenge from being fired from the lapd. it now appears there is a conclusion many expected. >> thanks so much.

prince george's county investigators are looking for suspects after a homicide in fort washington. officers found the victim on the ground when they responded to a call of a shooting on rosemarie drive before 11:00 last night. the victim died at the scene and there is still no word on possible motive. >> investigators are searching for the cause of the deadly house fire in prince george's county in indian head. safety concerns forced firefighters to fight the fire from outside. >> we had numerous companies from the area. we had about 55 firefighters here. >> authorities discovered a woman's body inside the home but she has not been identified. one firefighter was treated for minor burns. >> police are trying to find a

missing mother and child from greenbelt. the 25-year-old and her 1-year- old daughter were last seen on thursday. there walked into a bus stop on greenbelt road. don't believe she has the means to support herself and her daughter so if you know where they are please call prince george's county police. pope benedict xvi is speaking out for the first time after announcing he is stepping down back thousands of people filled the vatican's main audience call for his first public appearance monday. he told the faithful he is resigning for the good of the church. later today, he will celebrate ash wednesday mass at st. peter's basilica. >> 35 degrees and more to come on "good morning washington." if you feel you are barely getting by, you are not alone. >> we will highlight the president's agenda for his second term related to the state

>> well, back at 6:16. there is a lot of talk about what happened overnight and that is the state of the union address. >> president obama headed to north carolina this morning and will push with some of the proposals from the address. let's check in with brianne carter. >> many analysts this morning are saying the town is exactly what they expected to hear from president barack obama as he laid out what he would like to see as his priorities over the next four years including the big topics of immigration, gun control, and, of course, the economy. in his first state of the union of his second term, the president laid out his vision to

move forward highlighting his plans to grow the middle class but let's declare that in the wealthiest nation on earth, no one who worked full time should have to live in poverty. >> the president proposed raising minimum wage t 9o dollars and urged congress to act on cuts that kicked in march 1. >> let's work to pass a budget that replaces reckless cuts would smart savings and wise investment in our future. >> one of the most dramatic moments of the night came on the issue of gun control. many of congress were wearing green ribbons to honor the sandy hook elementary school. he said to bring the issue to a vote. >> gaby giffords deserves a vote, the families of newtown and blacksburg and the countless other communities left -- ripped open by gun violence deserves a

hold off until the middle of the afternoon as we take a look at our winter weather advisory, the national weather service has posed to them for our western areas. they could pick up as much as 3- 5 inches. there might be a little bit in d.c. but not much. our temperatures will be warm enough that things will melt on the street. it has been warm this week, 59 degrees yesterday. there you can see this afternoon the moisture begins to fill in. you can see the western areas will be getting some of the snow. winchester and hagerstown will get snow by the evening hours. in the metro area, just or rain but as we head into the overnight hours, that will move out and it will be a quick hit. 35 degrees right now and are

live report from northeast d.c. on an accident on new york avenue that sounds pey -- that sends a pedestrian to a hospital. >> police in california believe the search for christopher dorner may be over. >> plus, what prompted a child to read a complaint letter to disney after taking a family crews? it is wednesday, february 13. >> a chilly start to the day so let's check in with jacqui jeras. >> the sun is starting to come up. our days are getting longer and longer and the clouds had begun to move in and our temperatures are in the middle of 30's. a little cooler and we need to bundle up up north. the majority of the morning will

be cloudy but the rain will be moving in by the afternoon hours. by this evening, we will see a wintry mix and a changeover to snow but little to no accumulation expected in the metro area. west and north will get more. all this will wind down around midnight and sunshine in the seven-day forecast with details coming up next. your evening commute may not be so great -- >> no major problems end maryland or virginia but here are alternates to get into the district. the accident is closing on new york avenue in bound. the accident involved a pedestrian that was struck before you get to the brentwood the parkway. avoid that area and you can come off of 295 and bail out at benning road into town.

involved in this pedestrian accident. it sustained a lot of damage and the windshield is shattered. that's where the car made contact with the pedestrian. emergency responders were performing cpr on the adult male who was struck and his condition at this hour is extremely critical. from what we can see, it looks like the impact happened about 150 feet from the crosswalk at kendall new york avenue, directly across the street from the bus depot. we are trying to figure out of this man was perhaps walking over to the depot but that is unclear. the driver pulled over into a parking lot and now he is currently talking to police. >> thank you very much.

in california, the massive manhunt for a former los angeles police of a cert has ended. it may now be over. authorities say the charred remains were found in a burned out cabin where christopher dorner apparently barricaded himself. one share of a deputy was shot and killed and another wounded in a shootout before the cabin when up in flames yesterday. the rains -- the remains have not been identified. to keep up with that case, visit our website at wjla.com. >>a senate committee meets today to discuss ways to help the u.s. postal service. the homeland security and governmental affairs committee is scheduled to hear from the postmaster general and the head of the postal workers' union. they recently announced that it will end saturday delivery and

hike fees to help cut costs. the senate also holds its first hearing on the overhaul of the nation's immigration laws. janet napolitano and an illegal immigrant will testify. a bipartisan group of senators is trying to craft a bill to tighten border security and provide a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants. >> in our homes norden is scheduled to testify against the bill to extend a pay freeze for federal employees for the rest of the year. she is expected to tell the house rules committee that federal workers contributed more than their fair share -- eleanor holmes norton. she says it should have gone to the house oversight committee first. >> there is a new royal scandal involving prince william and his pregnant wife, kate. >> an italian magazine published photos of the royal couple while they're on vacation. they show the pregnant duchess of cambridge in a bikini.

ambitious blueprint for his second term. he covered several issues -- the economy, gun-control the military operation in afghanistan and sequestration. brianne carter has more. >> good morning, the president is headed to north carolina to talk about all of that and try and continue to sell his plan that he put forward in his first state of the union address since re-election. his tone was more aggressive than many thought it would be. he laid out what he would like to see over the next couple of years. the big issues the economy the president asked for a raise in the minimum wage up to $9. also, telling congress to act and not have those cuts going into place on march 1. we saw the motion in the chamber during the topic of gun-control. the president told congress that they need to bring the issue to

a vote. one of the other big topics since a re-election is immigration. >> as we speak, bipartisan groups in both chambers are working diligently to draft a bill and i applaud their efforts. let's get this done. send a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the next few months and i will sign it right away and america will be better for it. let's get it done. >> how likely it is to get any or all of this done remains to be seen. over the past couple of months and years, there has been a lot of gridlock coming from both sides on capitol hill. we heard the gop response from senator marco rubio who said more government and taxes is not the right way to move forward. >> our partners at "poltico" monitor the president's speech.

mike allen joins us now. how did the president do? >> the president did what he wanted to do which is to remind people that he won a big election and he said this is a center-left combination. he talked about raising the minimum wage what he calls a fix it first program to fix bridges and universal pre-k for four-year olds. >> we see applause lines built into these -- >> it is more than one per minute. >> at the same time, he needs to work on bipartisanship. did he do that? >> not much, the president said to republicans that your help

and on immigration and amazingly, it looks like you will get something on immigration. the tea party response senator rand paul, he talked about the need for some immigration legislation. the president will get something on gun control which one year ago, was unlikely. he will probably get universal background checks and maybe a trafficking law. he will not get the assault weapons ban but the president will get a lot. republicans, though, are not in the mood right now. speaker john boehner had network correspondents and reporters to a breakfast and he said the president did not have the guts to do would need to be done on entitlements. that does not sound like somebody who is ready to make a deal. the president showed that he has the upper hand. >> the president is now hitting

airstrike in afghanistan overnight killed four insurgents and nine civilians. the air strike hit two houses near the pakistani border the u.s. military alliance as it is investigating the incident. chaos breaks out of a popular tourist area in guam. officials say a 21-year-old stabbed three people and used his car to crash into a crowd of people at a resort tuesday night. initial reports indicate all the victims were japanese tourists. he faces murder and other charges. a carnival cruise ship is being towed to mobile alabama. the conditions are worsening on board. there are long lines for bathrooms, food, and increased concerns about the threat of the neuro-virus.
